Collin/Replay - close your eyes (Jordan Waeles remix) + a few updates

March 18th 2008

After years of work, I am going to have my first official remix released on the market! The artists are Collin/Replay, and I've been remixing a track of theirs called "Close your eyes", which was freshly released on the Selecta Beats label. Together with other artists, we've been working on remixes and those will be available for sale around mid-2008.

My remix is highly energetic, has some fine melodies with an uplifting trance drive as well as the beautiful voice of Lena collin. Over the last couple of weeks, I've been mastering the track together with Owen Replay, the leader and producer of that project, and we expect the work to be done in the next couple of weeks. Expect some huge hammering of this fine track on FM, on the Trance Mutation Podcast and in clubs. I'll post a clip of this huge remix as soon as we're done with it.

The Trance Mutation podcast will be updated today, I'm posting the 41st set this evening. I'm posting a set every two weeks, so if you want to subscribe to this podcast, go ahead!

I'll be spinning at NRJ Extravadance on tour on Saturday the 29th of march, have a look at my gigs schedule for more info. If you're not attending that party, don't miss my gig at the You Nighclub on next friday, or all the other parties where I'm mixing at the Enigme club in Brussels.

Last but not least, I've been working together with Christopher V on a couple of tracks for a common project we have, the one that still doesn't have a name. I'll tell you more about it in a near future!

PS: if you followed the troubles I had with my servers, those are over for quite some time now. I finally found what the issue was: some bots were flooding the web service, creating a denial-of-service attack. I've fixed it by putting in place some kind of speed limitation, so that it's still possible to browse the site and download sets at a decent speed and still prevent those bots from generating way too much traffic for my machines.

Lose your time on breaking things that worked: HOW-TO

January 29th 2008

Rule number one in server-administration: never ever fix something that is not broken.

I spent 8 hours today on fixing one of my two servers, the one that is hosting all my personal sites, because I thought it sounded like a good idea to update a few libraries on my system.

As a matter of fact, my server crashed very badly, and I had to rebuild all the modules with the right options and so on... so that's why it was unavailable for the last 8 hours.

So, instead of producing or updating the podcast, I had to type thousands of Unix-commands and find out by searching on google why it didn't work... to eventually come to a conclusion that my homemade suEXEC wrapper for Apache 1.3 didn't appreciate the glibc update, I managed to isolate the line that was causing suEXEC to segfault, but I couldn't find any bug in that line...

So I decided it would be cleaner to install suPHP that is made for that... but that was to find out two hours later that suPHP wasn't fully supporting Apache 1.3. Yipee. After installing Apache 2.0, reconfiguring it, recompiling PHP and its modules, I finally managed to get this server back online.

I don't even remember why I wanted to update glibc... I guess this had something to do with DomainKeys, postfix and so on... but I'll find that later on.

When I think I wanted to spend this day on music... :(

Update Friday 1st of february: I noticed the sets download script doesn't work anymore, I'll work on fixing this tomorrow, sorry guys!

Update 1st of march: There still are some issues from time to time, the server load rises up for unknown reasons. I am investigating this, and I hope I'll be able to find out what is happening. Sorry for all the bad experience this causes, I'm sure it will soon be fixed and that I would learn a lot of that :)

Feel like having Trance Mutation 13 for free before the others?

January 21st 2008

Trance Mutation 13 is coming up! It will a 80 minutes set packed with 20 tracks ranging from melodic to euphoric uplifting trance, with a bit of tech trance at the end. I am pretty sure that those of you that liked the previous editions of Trance Mutation won't be disappointed. I am adjusting the very last bits of it at the moment, and I will see if and when it will air on Digitally Imported. My guess would be that you would discover it somewhere in february.

Be the first in line to get it!

I created a Facebook page. Become a fan of mine and be the first to get Trance Mutation 13 for free download! There will be other advantages coming up as well, so subscribe now to my Facebook page and I'll keep you posted about this!

New residency at L'Enigme

February will be a very exciting month for me as I will be starting to work at a new club, it's called L'Enigme, it is located in Brussels and you'll find me over there every weekend. It's a small cosy and warm place where I will be spinning house mainly, together with my friends Mann, Mendi and Miss Jewel. The club is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Go and have a look at my agenda for more details regarding when and where I will be playing.

Podcast

As you might have noticed, the frequency of the episodes I post on the podcast has increased again. After a quiet period where I didn't put any show, I am now posting a new show every two weeks. I decided to stop talking over my shows, as it was too time consuming. That way, I am able to improve my productivity and focus my efforts on the mix instead. I am very open to any feedback you might have on this... but why would you complain anyway, less talk, more music and more shows...

New equipment in my studio

Latest addition to my pile of legally-owned music software, the reFX Nexus is a powerful synthetiser module that is very versatile, and whatever it does, it sounds so fantastic that I will have a hard time choosing which sounds to use for my productions. But Nexus has a solid competitor that is more customizable and allows a lot more for editing, it is the Z3Ta+, by Cakewalk, and that is one fine purchase of mine as well.

And last but not least, a piece of hardware that I consider as one of my best buys of the last months... the ADAM A7 monitor speakers. Coupled with my Audiofire 12 sound interface I showed you earlier, I hear details in songs that I never heard before, such as tiny percussions in the background and instruments clicking, on top of a fantasticly clear and precise sound.

Expect some neat productions in the next couple of months!

Oh, and by the way, I wish all the best to all of you for this new year! Don't think too much and enjoy life as much as you can!

As we say in french: no news, great news!

August 29th 2007

I know I haven't been posting on this site for more than two months, so at last I'm taking the time to give a little sign of life.

Podcast

This summer was actually filled with sets on NRJ, that took me much more time than I expected. Therefore, I didn't update the podcast for two months... but the sets for it are piling up on my desk, so I already have 5 fresh sets for you guys that I will post over the next months. The first one will be a set I did to promote a new compilation, HEAVEN 5 - DEEP TRANCE ESSENTIALS, released on NEWS this summer. It will be floating, and it actually was a premiere for me, mixing deep trance and I liked it, you can expect some calmer tunes in the next episodes (but don't worry, I'll keep the balance with harder tunes as well, and those who like the uplifting and melodic stuff won't be disappointed.

New hardware in my studio

On the production side, I bought some gear for my homestudio, it's getting better :p The main thing I bought is my new audio interface, an Echo AudioFire 12, a 12 channels audio interface. It's way better than my crappy behringer soundcard I had before, you can't imagine how it makes a difference. And by the way, it's sounding way clearer also, it's crazy. I've put pictures of it in my gallery.

City Parade

I'm mixing this year again at the City Parade, on the NRJ truck, at the end of the parade. This year, the parade takes place in Mons/Bergen and it will be much longer than last year's parade (which was lasting a bit more than 1 hour).

California, here I come!

That's it, in two weeks from now I will be packing my stuff for San Jose, CA, where I will stay for more than two weeks. But this is not related to music, but with my day time job. Nevertheless, I saw that quite some people in California watch this site, so if you guys read me, I'm up for a drink while I'm there :)

More great news to come soon.

No holidays for producers: sunbathing in front of the screens

June 13th 2007

This summer promises a lot of good surprises, I am convinced I'll have a very good announcement to make regarding paradise troopers in a few days, so stay tuned about us as you may hear some very good news, something which happens to a project I'm involved in for the first time in my life, but I keep cool about it until I'm sure it's done.

On top of Paradise Troopers, I met another promising producer, Christopher V, and we started producing together on a more melodic yet energy-packed project, including pianos and guitars. More infos about that soon. We didn't made our mind on a project name yet, but we'll see that in time once the first track is totally finished.

On the house side, I am very happy to tell you that I'll be mixing at three "So nineties!" parties throughout the summer at Le You, my residency club in Brussels. As you may have guessed, we are going to have a look back at the tracks that made the charts out of the last 20 years, and I must say that I'm very excited and enthusiastic, as it is in that period that I got hooked to the electronic music. The next edition of the You'niversity "so 90's" will be held at Le You on the 14th of June (tomorrow). I'm pretty confident that Olivier Gosseries and I will have a great time there behind the decks.

Oh, and as you may have noticed, I've posted a special 200+ minutes long set on the trance mutation podcast, featuring melodic, uplifting, tech-trance, NRG, Hardtrance and Psytrance, and mixed by myself. You'll also hear what Chris and I are working on as the last track of the set (although we worked quite some more on it since then).

I wish you all a very hot and productive summer and I'll post some more news about the very great thing soon!

Paradise Troopers, TV, Podcast and Flashy J

April 6th 2007

I know I went through a lazy period over the past weeks... I didn't think so much time passed since my last update of the site, so here it is!

Our next Paradise Troopers track is on its way. I guess we'll have two mixes of it by the end of the month, it will be more on the tech-trance edge, with a few electro sounds in it and powerful leads, the two mixes will be Blue Signal's and mine.

I also posted a new episode on the podcast yesterday. As you may hear, I caught the flu, so my voice is kind of weird... but we're here for the music, right?

Moving on to the next topic, this has nothing to do with music or my DJ life, but I'm featured in a TV commercial for the biggest auction website, which stands in four letters and is the same as that well-known american online-auction website... If you still don't get it, I'm talking about eBay. There are two TV ads running for one month on the main french-speaking belgian TV channels! Watch it on Youtube! I'm that photograph jerk, I think you can't miss me. The other commercial is really good as well, watch it here.

Then, at last, my next gigs are this saturday on NRJ with my monthly Trance Mutation Broadcast mix which will be featuring a bunch of all-times anthem trance classics. Does "Carte blanche", "Calling your name" or "Liberation" ring a bell to you? If not, you really have to fill this gap in your trance culture by listening to the show on NRJ on saturday evening or subscribing to my podcast. As for my Flashy J project (which is my scene nickname for soulful, disco and electro house), I will be behind the decks this tuesday at Le You in Brussels for the huge "Mad About You" party which promises to be a thrilling event, and then on thursday 26th of april for another YOUniversity party. As usual... be there or be square!

Post-scriptum: Don't miss the set I just posted in the mixes part of this website!

Don't miss my next appearance on DI trance channel, on march 20th in Granddaddy DJ's High Definition Dance Music show! I'll be performing a one-hour set including uplifting and banging tech-trance!

On the house-music side, I will be mixing on march 22d, 29th and april 10th at Le You in Brussels.

And last but not least, on saturday 7th I will be mixing in NRJ Extravadance my monthly Trance Mutation Broadcast set. Expect some new episodes to be added in the podcast soon !

New paradise troopers production!

January 30th 2007

On december 29th and 30th, Bram and Levin were at my place, we produced all night long and after four weeks of work, we're very excited to introduce you to our latest track: I needed you.

It features a nice atmosphere with energetic leads, female vocals (Sara, I'm sorry to call you "a female", that's the way we use to say it, you know :)) and a strong buildup towards the climax.

Paradise Troopers - I needed you (demo clip) on electrobel.be

We're looking for a label to release that track, if you have any tip for us or if you're working for a label and are interested in our work, just contact me.

Weekly Trance Mutation Broadcast show paused for some time

January 4th 2007

I am afraid to announce that I resigned from Radio Saffier / LRK thursday, because the weekly TMB show is taking too much time. Over the past weeks, Trance Mutation Broadcast has been improved a lot, it was a really great place to learn, but now I don't have the time to do it anymore.

I would like to invest this time in producing. I have a lot of projects with my friends from the paradise troopers that are waiting because I didn't have the time to work on them yet, and I decided that I'd spend much more time producing this year.

Please note the monthly set on NRJ is still running. I'll post some more free sets in the downloads page from time to time, including exclusive promo tracks and remixes, but I can't promise anything about when I'll do that.

I wish all of you all the best for 2007!

Tomorrow night, I'll be mixing Dave Clarke's new double CD compilation "Remixes & Rarities" on NRJ.

Dave Clarke, one of the fathers of techno music, released a new compilation with his best remixes, and a few unreleased ones !

The double-CD will be in stores around mid-november.

Be sure to catch the mix in tomorrow's Extravadance, on NRJ Radio !

TMB on FM every WEEK !

September 15th 2006

As of today, Trance Mutation Broadcast, my little radio show which appeared for the first time in NRJ and then was extented to Rob van Holland's Energy show on Radio Saffier, will be broadcast every friday at 10 pm on Radio Saffier !

Trance Mutation Broadcast will host every other week a guest DJ. If you are a DJ and if you want to share your passion for trance with a lot of listeners, head to the contact page and send me a mail with a link to your freshest set. Later on, an upload form will be put here for more convenience :)

A few guidelines about the sets : they have to be 1 hour long ( not less, can be longer but it will be cut ), at least 192kbps MP3 ( but 320kbps is really appreciated ), watch for your sound ( please, no saturating sets, no over-buzzing soundcards and no destructive compression ), and try to build something nice. Any kind of trance is appreciated for sure, alternatives like techno and house / electro-house can be rather OK, but the priority definitely goes to trance. And last but not least, the mixing skills do count a lot, but the playlist originality and the set construction are really much - if not more - important !

Should you have any question, feel free to contact me !

PS : Trance Mutation Broadcast is back on NRJ as well, on a monthly basis. More infos soon !

Podcast online !

May 27th 2006
After days of research and coding, we are proud to announce that the Trance Mutation Podcast is officially open !

What is a podcast ?

Basically, it is a music channel that downloads automatically new episodes of a show on your computer, and even put them on your mp3 player ( eg. iPod ) so you can listen to them wherever you are, without caring of downloading new episodes when they are released.

Is this free ?

Sure. We only ask you to subscribe on the website so we can send you the link via e-mail.

Why subscribe on the site ?

Because podcasting is a bandwidth-expensive application ( thousands of automated downloads from our servers ), we would like to know who uses it, and forecast what we will need for bandwidth for next months.

What do I need ?

A high-speed connection to the Internet, Itunes ( or other compatible software that supports podcasting ), a portable mp3 player ( we tested it with an iPod ).

Go to the podcast subscription page

Three residences !

March 25th 2006

First of all, as you may have noticed, there were no Trance Mutation Broadcast on NRJ Radio recently, as M.I.K.E. was performing all of his shows ! However, there will be a special edition of Extravadance, just before july, with floating chill trance, mixed by Jordan Waeles ! You'll be all warned in time not to miss that show !

Jordan is now also resident of ENERGY, the awesome dance music show of Rob van Holland, on Radio Saffier ( 107.2 antwerpen ( BE ), 107.9 noord brabant ( NL ) ). Twice a month, on first and third sundays, Jordan will be bringing you an energy-packed one-hour set, with the most uplifting and pounding music. The show begins at 20:00 CET, and Jordan takes over the turntables at 22:00. Be sure to catch the premiere on sunday 23d of april, 22:00 CET.

Last but not least, you'll be able to move your feet on Jordan's beats from july, as he is resident of Le You, a great house nightclub in brussels. one Thursday out of two, your host for the night will be Jordan, with Pumping electro-flavoured house music, and retro-hardhouse.

No excuses for not being there will be accepted.

Jordan on FM !

December 2nd 2005
Here is an awesome news ! From Saturday 10th of december, Jordan Waeles is now Resident DJ on NRJ Belgium, one of the biggest radios here in Belgium ! Jordan is doing interim replacement for belgium's most famous trance producer, M.I.K.E. ( Also known as Push, Plastic Boy, Calling the Freak, and part of awesome projects that made trance be what it is today ! ). Together with Airwave, M.I.K.E. used to have a Residency in Extravadance, the Saturday night radio show that features four hours of house, trance and sometimes techno dj-sets.

Jordan will be mixing Trance, in a monthly show called Trance Mutation Broadcast, nearly every 2d saturday of the month, on NRJ Radio, broadcasting on the whole Belgium. Belgian listeners will then have the chance to catch a whole new and exclusive Trance Mutation set every month, that won't be avaiable here for download ( due to copyright issues ) !!

Be sure to attend the premiere, this saturday, at 23:00 CET, on NRJ Radio !

P.S. : Non-Belgian people willing to attend the show can tune in on the 24/7 128k MP3 stream, here !
